Givers way to success

Breaking the Mold

Breaking the Mold
My real, raw, and radical journey of becoming.
Read time: 4 minutes

"Dear bean,

Today I’m going right to the point:

Balance.

That’s a post. 😄

Ok, I can put it in a greater context haha.

In my last edition, I told you I was going to share my experience with shame and embarrassment, but then a post on LinkedIn with this visual got me jumping:

And scream, “Noooooo”.

So, I’m mixing it up for you this week.

It’s time to be real, raw, and radical with a social construct that exhausts and limits more than it serves.

Give, give, and give

Countless authors of personal development books write,

“Givers succeed in the long run because they build strong relationships and create a culture of collaboration and generosity.”

Adam Grant

In addition, countless caring adults were told as children, “Help others before yourself, don’t be selfish.”

And voila, we have a society where countless women and men - especially women - limit their potential and exhaust themselves on their quest for success.

Keep giving, expecting NOTHING in return, and often at the expense of their interests.

That’s how I ended up homeless, Alex with burnout, Domi undervalued at work, Laura struggling to make ends meet with her business, Marta feeling taken for granted in her relationship, and…

What did I forget?

Hard stop

You are NOT building healthy relationships or a culture of collaboration and generosity as a giver.

By giving, giving, giving, and giving… to eventually… one day… one blue moon… receive.

You end up exhausted and unrecognized.

While balance in your giving and receiving will.

I’m a giver

And I’ll keep giving.

With one slight adjustment: creating a healthy balance of giving and receiving.

This opens the door to another topic: are you open to receiving? Do you allow people to help you?

He he he that’s a story for next time 😉

For today…

From the bottom of my heart, if you resonate with today’s topic, I recommend you consider balance in your giving and receiving.

Unless…

  • You are happy being in one-sided relationships.

  • You are happy feeling like using only 10% of your potential.

  • You are happy being the last up for promotion in your company.

  • You are happy earning less money for your services than they are worth.

  • You are happy watching others live the life of their dreams while you recover from burnout

There’s NOTHING selfish in receiving more often than once every blue moon.

Or, what do you think?

P.S. I read ALL of your replies to my newsletter and they keep motivating me, so don’t be shy - click reply and share your stories, thoughts, and reflections.
